Thor

Thor

In the mid 1980s, a company called CST, who had produced many add-ons such as disk interfaces for the QL, produced a compatible computer called the Thor, which was based on the original QL motherboard with added memory expansion and disk interface all built into a sturdy metal case, along with a separate monitor and keyboard.

CST developed the original QDOS into a variant known as Argos, and the machine included extra software such as a version of Psion Xchange onboard.

At the time, this machine promised to be what many at the time felt should have become a QL mk2. Many other systems were proposed, although the Thor was the only one which sold in any significant number.

CST went on to develop further machines, such as the Thor 21 and the Thor 16. The latter was a 68000 based system which held great promise, although CST was to relocate to Denmark in controversial circumstances before the Thor XVI could be sold in great numbers here.
