Following the demise of IQLR magazine early in 1996 due to its publisher's ill health, Jochen Merz and Stuart Honeyball quickly set about establishing a new magazine with the name "QL Today".
A first issue was hastily put together and Dilwyn Jones was appointed as editor, a position he was to hold for nearly ten years.
QL Today magazine is still going strong, with former software publisher Geoff Wicks now at the helm.
QL Today has its own website at http://www.qltoday.com
The magazine saw some of the greatest periods of advancement of the QL scene, what with the launch of the GD2 "colour drivers", new window manager, Q40 and Q60 QL derivate computers, various emulators, and internet access.
At one stage there was a German language edition as well as the English one, although the German version closed down a few years ago.
QL Today has always managed to combine the latest news, in depth articles, the irreverend (such as the Byts Of Wood column written by Roy Wood for years), beginners material and even humour, such as the QL-related cartoons which were a feature of the magazine for many years. More recently it has carried major articles from Tony Tebby to tell the whole story of what happened before, during and after the launch of the QL.
