QL e-Zines

While most of the publications available for the QL over the years have been paper-based, there have also been a number of microdrive or disk-based e-Zines (Electronic Magazines). Here's some details of some of them at least.

Forum

One of the earliest e-Zines was one called Forum, published by Ian Bruntlett. Three issues were published and could be obtained for just 50 pence each from the author. The issues covered a wide variety of subjects and demos.

Club QL International

A self-help group, run by Mike Kenneally, the rather grandly named Club QL International published 121 issues in all. The format was pretty simple: for every issue a member sent a disk with return postage and a contribution to the magazine as a Quill DOC file. Topics were many and varied, and members also sent in programs they wished to share with other members.

In an effort to boost membership, Club QL International worked with QL Today magazine in 1997 to try to boost membership by including their 100th issue as a cover disk with QL Today magazine.

Sadly, dwindling membership and the emergence of mailing lists and bulletin boards caused the club to end after 121 issues in 2001.

QL Hackers Journal

Tim Swenson produced the QL Hackers Journal for many years, a disk-based magazine aimed mainly at programmers. He also produced a few copies of Q40 Linux Journal for users fo the Linux system on Q40 and Q60 computers.

The QL Hacker's Journal was a free publication. It started in January 1991 originally with a quarterly publishing schedule, although later issues became a little more erratic. The QL Hacker's Journal is mainly aimed at programmers, and contains a variety of interesting and often little covered subjects, ranging from SuperBASIC to C - a diverse collection of articles in each issue.

34 issues of the QL Hackers Journal were published in all, and 2 issues of the Q40 Linux Journal. Some of the issues appeared on paper, usually where the editor was present at shows to promote the magazine.
